Zoe's Dice is an Android app that provides a large format
and spoken alternative to rolling physical dice
for visually impaired tabletop gamers.

The Story

Zoe's Dice was created for a former girlfriend who is a nerd princess. Despite a severe visual impairment, she loves comics, collecting lego, video gaming and tabletop gaming.

The Problem

Unfortunately, her visual impairment means she struggles with reading small text, such as rule books and dice. Rule books were solved by obtaining electronic versions, but dice proved much more tricky as, excepting D6 dice, gaming dice are not readily available in large format.

The Solution

As she has a tablet computer, I crafted an app that would replace physical dice in her gaming sessions. Designed to be quick to operate, the app features a simple slider and buttons. The interface text is large and colours specifically chosen. The results are displayed in large text, as well as read aloud by a speech synthesiser.
